Day of the roses

I so wish I could have been in Oslo today for what was initially intended to be a march in honour of Friday's victims. Everyone was advised to carry a rose as a symbol of solidarity. About 150 000 people turned up in the streets. As it turned out, it wasn't possible to march due to the huge number of people, but I don't think that really mattered much. After the event, people decided to decorate the town in flowers...

I have borrowed these photos from Ivan André Abelsen's facebook page. For more photos click here , here and here.

So what was my excuse for not taking part? Well, somebody had to stay home and look after the future generation... I watched the two hour long broadcast on TV of the speeches and the songs performed. It was impossible not to be moved.

Janne,
the violent attacks are just too horrible to contemplate.... Demonstrations of love such as the flower vigil go a small way to restoring faith in human kindness though.
Thinking of you and everyone affected,
x J

Thank you for sharing these amazing photos. The sorrow is felt throughout the world for the lives of those lost and the lives of those who survived the attacks. May you all find peace.

A beautiful tribute to those lives lost and so moving the single roses placed in unexpected corners. The events in Norway have been felt around the world and my teenage daughters and their friends here in the UK have been especially saddened and shocked.
Thankyou for sharing these pictures x

These photos are beautiful, and so moving. The reponse of the people, and the government, to this horrible event has been extraordinary. xx
