Thrift finds

I had a good day thrift shopping yesterday. I had seen this vase in the window of a summer-closed thrift store last week, and eagerly been waiting for the shop to open so that I could get my hands on it... It looks like an Aldo Londi design (for Bitossi, Italy), but I am not sure if it's the real thing or a copy (it has some kind of signature underneath). If anyone knows, I'd be happy to hear from you!

The other items are vintage Figgjo and Stavangerflint.

Blocks

Had a long and very tiresome trip to Ikea yesterday, but I guess it was all worth the effort when my boy had such a lot of fun with his new Ekorre push-cart today. And we both like the colourful blocks that Dad put in there...

Figgjo II

This is a coffee set that I inherited from my grandmother. It is called Randi (like my good friend in New Zealand - hello!) and was made by Figgjo Flint in the late 60's or early 70's. I treasure it. I especially like the little flower on the saucer which comes into view when you lift the cup up off it.

Nature calling

Some woodland greenery and a new friend I made today...

Figgjo

This post is just a little gem from my vintage cups collection. It's by Figgjo, Norway. I keep it for decorative purposes only. It has been used in its former life though, as it shows a bit of wear. I think that only makes it more interesting. I love the print.

Today I've been shopping for materials and tools for my upcoming production. It's going to take me a bit of time, but I'll post it here as soon as something is finished.

Tomorrow I'm going on a little excursion. I'll bring my camera in the hope that I'll find something to snap. We'll see.

Stavanger Flint

This bird dish I remember sitting in my grandmother's front room. I had completely forgotten about it until I found one on ebay. I simply had to have it. The brushstrokes and colours are great - very 50's - and I love the shape. The other vintage Stavanger Flint item here is a plate of which I have only this one. I use it almost everyday. If somebody knows they name of the design/pattern, please let me know!

Play in the sunshine

For lack of anything else to post today, I give you my two very best.

Interiors

I got this Brio dollhouse for Christmas when I was about 4. It is still one of the best presents I ever got. (OK, so I am still a big kid at heart. And still into playing around with interiors). I dug it out of my mum's attic a couple of years back, and now it has pride of place in my son's bedroom. Some of the furniture I got back in the 70's - others I've bought new as well as second hand. It didn't have electricity way back then, so it was a big moment when I could finally switch on the lights more than 30 years later...

Green

Just thought I'd share this bit of green pattern with you, it being summer and all.

Monochrome patterns

I really like black and white patterns. The top left is a vintage Lanvin dress. Next to it is a vintage maxi skirt from Finland. The bottom left is a new skirt and to the right is fabric from Åhlens (if I remember correctly).

Scarf

This is a scarf I made out of a vintage dress about seven years ago. I'm thinking I should make more...

Pouf

I think that's the right term for this thing. Another fleemarket find. It really deserves a place in a boudoir, but it sits in my office.

Swedish art

I have had a postcard with the Dead Dog picture up on my wall for the longest time. It tells a sad but sweet story. (And no, it is not real...) The photographer is Helena Blomqvist. When surfing for it I accidentally came across the Sweaterbag by fashion designer/artist Ann-Sofie Back. I am fascinated by her work.

Mapkin?

I found these paper napkins in my local bookstore. The motif is a map of Nesodden (where we are) and the surrounding area (Oslo). They make me smile. What an idea. Oh, and the cutlery is called Skaugum and can be bought through PurNorsk.

Yellow

It's such a grey day here, so I thought I'd post some sunny yellow. The fabric is a NoaNoa T-shirt, the cushion is one I made from vintage Vera fabric (they will be on sale in my web shop) and then theres the old toot-a-loop radio. I'm considering painting the kitchen in that yellow.

Happymeat

This girl, Cecilie, knows her stuff. She does wonderful things in illustration as well as 3D. I am looking foreward to buying some of her no doubt fantastic Christmas cards at this year's Designers' Christmas market in Oslo(DEJM).

Vintage fabrics

OK, so I didn't iron these before photographing them... Beautiful all the same, I think. I'd like to have a huge collection of vintage fabrics, but there is a storage problem in this house. Have to work on that.

Fabric patterns

Some pics of patterns on recent clothes purchases.

Pottery

Some of my pottery collection. The little bear figurine is by Rörstrand - I guess from the 50's. The long leaf-shaped dish 'Blå Båge' is by Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg, the white vase from Arabia and the two little bowls from Granit.

Almedahls stuff

I love these patterns from Almedahls. 'Sill' (left) is by Marianne Nilson and 'Perssons kryddskåp' is by Astrid Sampe. Can be bought at Designtorget.

Phone

I have a thing for old phones. When I found this last year, we were joking that it would be the phone to call the hospital once labour kicked in.

Chairs

The Fannett55 chair by Ilmari Tapiovaara was another flee market bargain. I now want to find another one so that I have a pair. My Fatboy beanbag in Marimekko's Unikko pattern saved many a day during the end of my pregnancy last summer... It is very comfortable.

Warm glow

I love this lamp by Norwegian ceramic artists Scusi. (See more of their stuff under PurNorsk).

Cupboard

I'll post some close-ups of some of the content later.

Vintage books

These vintage Better Homes and Gardens books I found on ebay. The Guide to Entertaining is from 1969 while the Flower Arranging is from 1957. Fun books, if very housewife-ish.

Shopping part II

I also picked up these retro sandals from Fly London on Saturday.

A few of my favourite things

The glass bird (peace dove?) hanging in the window is most likely a Scandinavian Christmas decoration from the 70's. I have it up permanently. At nkr 2,50 (about half a dollar) it is one of my better bargains at a local flee market. The black iron candlesticks by Dansk are some of my early ebay purchases, and the framed poster ad and bowl are other vintage flee market buys. The graphics by Gunnar S. Gundersen is up on my living room wall. It's only a print, unfortunately. I intend to invest in one of his original graphic works one day.
