Light

Trying to block out certain spots of light when photographing for my web-shop today, I put paper up on the window. Then this happened.

Sneak preview

I am currently working like a madwoman towards the deadline I have set myself for re-launching my web-shop. The images are taking foreeeever... I'm trying my hardest to get it up by Monday. Haha! Watch this space.

Planetveien 12

OK, so I did extensive surfing, and managed to find an Italian pdf file (!) with most of these pictures of Grete Prytz Kittelsens house in Planetveien 12, Oslo. It was drawn by her architect husband Arne Korsmo. I had hoped to find a recent photo of the great lady herself too, but no such luck unfortunately. The search goes on. Thinking the follow-up to this will be a blog post about cool old lady designers... :-)

More Stavangerflint thrift

Another thrift find yesterday. Found 6 of the plates but only one cup. The subtle greyish green background color and the black pattern appeals to me. And Frankie did say he wanted some new dishes for the biscuits.

Grete Prytz Kittelsen

I went thrift shopping again yesterday. Found the big green tray in the picture, to go with the rest of my collection. At $2 it was a bargain and a half! These were designed by Grete Prytz Kittelsen for Cathrineholm in the 50s. Prytz Kittelsen is one of the top Norwegian product and jewellery designers, and she is now 90 years old. She used to be married to top modernist architecht Korsmo. I'm thinking I should find some photos of her house - she has fantastic interiors.

Text

Today I'm posting some text pieces that I find amusing. The top one I photographed during my college days in England (many, many years ago). It was a sign painted on a brick wall by a car park in Eltham. Just goes to show inspiration can come from anywhere..

The second picture is an oldie but goldie. By artist Barabara Kruger. I love her work.

Keep calm

When it was time to do up the smallest room of the house, I couldn't resist putting in some funky elements. Like this shiny wallpaper by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki for Habitat. The poster is a reproduction of an old World War II message posted around Britain back in the days. It can be ordered (in other colors too) at Keep Calm.

Jenny Holzer

Possibly my favorite artist. Probably to do with both her humour and typography. (And posted here today due to inspiration by Dawn's little notes to herself ;-)

These three hang in the little room pictured above..

A few years ago I used to freelance for Norways biggest telecom corporation. They are situated in this modern complex where they have invested in a lot of great contemporary art (sadly much misunderstood by a lot of the staff). Along the roof top of one building they have this LED electronic sideboard running 24 hrs with Jenny Holzer's truisms. It's wonderful! Some days when I had to drag myself to work in the dark winter mornings, commuting with all these other tired faces, to be met by this artwork always lifted my spirits.

Autumn

Just a couple of 'autumnal' snaps for you today. After weeks of sickness and non-productiveness I've finally got some work done on my web project. Lots to do still, though.. Can't wait to have the shop up and running. I've set a deadline for October 1st.

Umbrella

So I went to the Orla Kiely shop in London and I got the bag I wanted. I missed out on this fantastic umbrella, though (I only just saw it online.) Would brighten up any rainy day.

Åhléns (again)

More fabric to make cushions... This is by Almedahls, and I found it at Åhléns today. I also got this card board desk organizer and notepad. (Just procrastinating from actually making stuff, of course!)

LZC

Thanks to Åse Pernille for giving me this lovely notebook by LZC!

I'm home from 5 days in London and it feels so goooood...

Have some cake!

Our boy was 1 year old today, and this was his very first birthday cake.
More for the grown ups of course... (Next year I'll do something colorful
and fun). Anyway, he was a lot more into all his presents than his first
taste of cake. If you're reading Dawn - Marshall the love creature was a
success; he got a big hug from his new owner as soon as the wrapping came
off :-)

OK. Off to London tomorrow, which means a blog break for me. Will be back on Thursday.

Utensilo

This was the best I could do today.. I have a terrible cold, the house is a mess, I have a birthday cake to make and a suitcase to pack. Oh bother. My Utensilo doesn't look too organized either. I'm giving you a close-up of my favorite picture up there - Abba. I used to love them as a kid. I still love what Agnetha is wearing in this photo. Makes me want some red ankle boots :-o

Sugarloop

I received this Etsy purchase from Sugarloop today. Needless to say, I adore
it. It's a bronze print done on a Gocco. I've also just purchased my own
Gocco, and that arrived today aswell! I am very excited to try it out, but a
bit scared too... It won't be this week though, as the boy is sick with
double sided ear infection, poor thing, and will need all the TLC available
around here. We're off to London on Saturday, so maybe next week sometime...
Must start drawing.

Rug

I was so happy when I found this Ikea PS 'Gylsboda' rug in their discount area. I remember reading about it earlier and thinking 'that would be nice!' then completely forgot about it. Until the other day, that is. I thought it would be great in the kiddies room. If I remember the story correctly, Gylsboda is the designer Maria Vinke's hometown - a small place in Sweden. In the map illustrated on the rug however, all the street names are changed into international road names. An exciting idea, I think. And what a find!

Birthday

It is my birthday today. Not much to celebrate as the big 4-0 is getting dangerously close now... However, I got these lovely flowers from my boys. We had a great lunch in town then headed off to Stenersen Museum to catch a photo exhibition by Sally Mann. The photographs were great but I can see why they're controversial. I preferred her landscapes, to be honest.
